Owner Jarvis Johnson outfitted his Insight with an OS140rx and
finished it with monokote. This one was built as per the plans.
Final weight is 10lbs. 0oz. Vertically challenged?....I think not.
Owner Chuck Hochhalter increased the
height of the fuse by 1" and used an
Aeroslave Aires canopy to define his Insight.
OS160fx with wrap-around header and pipe.
Finish is monokote, 10lbs. 6oz. Nice work
Chuck. Look out, Chuck can fly.
*****Congratulations Mr. Hochhalter******
Chuck finished 3rd in 402 at his first US
Nats. Even more impressive, Chuck won the
last three of six rounds during the Nats!!
John Forestieri's new Wood Ride....built stock in shape but modified
inside with composite formers, firewall, & gear plate. The 1/16" fuse
doublers were replaced with 1/16" balsa sheeting (vertical grain)
from the firewall to the back of the cabin. The end result is a fully
painted 2 meter plane with an OS160fx and a standard muffler that
weighs in at an awesome 9lbs. 15oz. I have had the pleasure of
flying this one and I must say, "I'm jealous."

This is a pic of John's fusebox with the carbon laminate firewall with
Budd mount and carbon laminate gear plate. The main formers are
fiberglass laminate (both materials are 25% lighter than 1/8" lite ply &
much stiffer). Notice the vertical 1/16" balsa sheeting on the insides of
the fuse-sides. This cross grain sheeting worked out very well. The
fusebox top is 1/16" ply as per the plans.
